Pilkington plc is a large-scale manufacturer of glass and glazing products for building, automotive and technical markets with annual revenues of £2.7 billion and manufacturing operations in 25 countries on four continents.

The brief
Opportunities were created in a wide variety of engineering disciplines including Software Development, Project Management, Glass Furnace Design, Control & Instrumentation and Mechanical Engineering.

The Process
Pilkington hoped to recruit up to 7 new employees in a variety of disciplines consultants leading the assignment visited the process plant on a number of occasions in order to gain valuable insights into Pilkington and to understand the company's requirements fully.

Verbal and Numerical Ability Testing
Tests assessed candidates' numerical and verbal critical reasoning ability and therefore their suitability for such roles.

Consultant Interviews
Selected candidates attended competency-based interviews, and were questioned closely around the specialist skills needed.

Personality Profiling
ResourceBank uses the SHL suite of assessment tools. Candidates were asked to complete the OPQ32 (Occupational Personality Questionnaire).

Results
Eight candidates rather than the expected seven were offered positions.
