How to get £11k government funding for every recruit this summer

There has never been a better time to hire and develop your workforce.  You can currently access government funding worth over £11k for every recruit you take on this summer. Hospitality majors such as Mitchell & Butlers and Whitbread are leading users of government funding schemes but they are available to all businesses from whatever sector regardless of size.

Imogen Pearson explains:

Hiring & training new employees – up to £11,000 funding

If you’re looking to hire long term new members of your team then the new Apprentice incentive available up to September 2021 is a fantastic option. The Apprentice Incentive gives you a £3,000 payment for hiring a new employee onto an apprentice scheme.  This can be ANY age or level of experience of employee – and “Apprentice” just means they are enrolled onto one of the 700 officially recognised training programmes covering every area of work.  A popular one for our clients is the Level 2 Commis Chef which costs £8,000 and the Government pays £7,600 of the cost for you.

Imogen runs ApprenticeLink which gives employers free advice and support in using apprenticeships.

Hiring trainees / unskilled workers – up to £7,250 funding

The Kickstart scheme gives you a £1,500 set up grant and pays the wages of your kickstart employee for 6 months (25 hours per week) – which would be £5,750 for a 23 year-old.  Funding also covers employer NI contributions plus minimum pension auto enrolment. This scheme is specifically for under 25 year-olds who are at risk of long term unemployment.  There is the potential to retain the kickstart participant after 6 months and then enrol them onto a longer term apprentice training scheme if they show potential (and utilise government funding for that too).

Using an experienced advisor such as Imogen and her colleague Anna to identify which schemes to utilise and then to manage your applications for you is a massive benefit for overstretched HR departments.

“The administration of Kickstart in particular is fairly complicated but we handle all this for our clients at NO cost to them.  We are paid by the Government in order to support and promote the scheme.  Due to its popularity the lead time for kickstart approval is around 4 weeks so I urge any company wanting to expand this summer to contact me as soon as possible”

Whether or not you’re successful in securing funds for the Kickstart scheme, there’s plenty of ways our Flex recruitment can give you a fast, responsive and effective way of scaling up your teams as the industry starts to flourish again.
