The three things that HR Directors are focussing on for September 2021
With the kids back in school and the night’s drawing in, September is traditionally a month when businesses give HR projects a re-launch. We work with many HR leaders throughout the UK and here are the key topics that they are talking to us about for September.
Recruitment is a real challenge – proactive approach needed
The number of vacancies is at an all-time high and most organisations are reporting real issues in recruiting enough staff. Despite this, ResourceBank recruited a record number of candidates in July & August for our retained clients (including Wolseley, Simpson Millar and SMT).
We have become expert at searching and identifying “passive” candidates and approaching them on our clients’ behalf. Whether they be sales directors, mechanics, marketing managers, lawyers, drivers, retail assistants or dentists, every candidate needs to be approached these days and treated as a customer. It’s no use advertising vacancies on-line and hoping for applications – you must directly approach the best AND stand-out.
A word of warning – searching and approaching is harder and more time-consuming than advertising and managing responses – so you will need to spend more money on dedicated resourcing professionals – either your own teams (if you have them) or outsourced to specialist RPO suppliers such as ResourceBank and we’re offering flexible recruitment for one off projects and peak demand.
Retain and engage your current workforce
The Covid epidemic has made many re-evaluate their work and life goals – recent research suggests that up to 50% of the UK workforce plans to move jobs over the next 12 months. Having a clear idea of the engagement levels of your workforce must be a priority for any HR leader.
We manage engagement interview services for a wide range of clients – including exit interviews, stay interviews, recent joiner interviews regular engagement surveys. Having an independent partner to mange the process enables our HR clients to focus on the outputs and implementing strategy to improve retention.
Managing the end of furlough – right-sizing the right way
30th September marks the end of the Government’s “Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme’, or ‘furlough’ as it is more commonly known. The removal of this financial support is a real concern for those businesses still impacted by travel restrictions and they are having to make tough decisions to right-size their workforce. Our bespoke outplacement services support HR leaders having to implement right-sizing and we have helped hundreds of employees, from a variety of sectors, to make the next steps in their career journey.
Those are the three most urgent challenges that we hear about from HR leaders in our network. If you are sharing these areas of pain, please feel free to reach out – we offer a completely free analysis of your current situation and will provide a report on how you can improve.
